ABRAHAM SERFATY, DEATH OF A MAN OF COURAGE
Date
Sections
Abraham Serfaty died in Marrakesh yesterday. A political prisoner for 17 years from 1977 to 1991, because he supported the cause of self-determination of the Saharawi people, and subsequently sent into exile by King Hassan II for 8 years, he returned to Morocco in September 1999 as a free citizen.
The GUE/NGL group salutes the memory of this anti-colonialist and internationalist activist who fought throughout his entire life against all forms of injustice, for democracy, freedom and the right of people to decide for themselves. We had the pleasure of welcoming him with his wife in the European Parliament in November 1991 when he came to thank all those who had contributed to his liberation.
We would like to extend to his wife, Christine Daure-Serfaty, who always fought by his side, his family and his comrades our sincere condolences. We will not forget Abraham Serfati, the activist and the man of courage.
