The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament will hold their next external group meeting in Madrid from 25 to 28 September 2023. Under the slogan “Adelante!” they will discuss how to achieve a social Europe that works for everyone.
The S&Ds will address a wide range of topics with their counterparts in Madrid, ranging from social rights, asylum, economic governance, and nature restoration. S&D Group members will hold debates with representatives of trade unions, civil society, and NGOs.
Acting President of Spain, Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, will take part in the Group meeting on Thursday, 28 September at 10:00, alongside S&D President Iratxe García Pérez. The session will be live-streamed on the S&D Group website, YouTube channel, and by satellite.
Iratxe García, Group leader of the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament and MEP, said:
“On the occasion of the Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU, we are holding this meeting of the Group of Socialists and Democrats in Madrid. The cooperation between our Group and progressive governments in Europe has been a success throughout the EU legislature, and has allowed us to carry out an agenda based on solidarity to initiate major reforms, such as the ecological and digital transition, as well as tackle the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic and social consequences of the war against Ukraine.
"In Madrid, with members of the Spanish government, we will discuss the policies that we want to finalise before the next European elections, such as the reform of economic governance, the strengthening of social policies, and the Migration Pact."
