One of the many impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic has been a notable exacerbation of gender inequality. Women have suffered disproportionally in the labour market, unpaid and informal economies and for women in other marginalised communities, the impacts have been substantially worse. The economic recovery packages that follow the pandemic must account for these gendered consequences and help redress the disparities that are still widening. This webinar seeks to provide public finance professionals with the tools they need to do just this; ensure economic recovery packages are receptive, responsive and inclusive of gender and to provide an understanding of the differences gender can play in the economy. Specifically it will look at:
- The impacts of COVID-19 on gender inequality in the economy and society generally
- The background and justification for gender-responsive budgeting in light of these widening inequalities
- The underlying conditions required to ensure GRB is effective
- The entry points of GRB in policy and budget cycles – when and how to include GRB at each stage of the cycle
- How public finance professionals can play a key role in ensuring GRB is designed, implemented and evaluated effectively
