In the aftermath of the COVID19 crisis, which has shown the importance of a resilient food system, FEDIOL will be actively engaged in the transition towards enhanced sustainability, as outlined in the recent Farm-to-Fork strategy. This will require to address potential ambiguities in the plan to reduce the environmental impact of our food system, while at the same time ensuring a continuous supply to the food and non-food markets.
“I look forward to engaging on the announced initiatives linked to the European Green Deal and to supporting the policy process together with the teams of FEDIOL experts” declared Roger Janson at the outcome of the General Assembly meeting. Commenting on the outlook of the challenges ahead, he added: “We are conscious of the responsibility of our industry in this green transition, and we will play our role in ensuring the implications of certain EU policy choices for our supply chains in Europe and beyond are understood and taken into account”.

FEDIOL, the EU vegetable oil and proteinmeal industry association, represents the interests of the European oilseed crushers, vegetable oil refiners and bottlers. FEDIOL members are 10 national associations and associated company members in 7 other EU countries.
With about 180 facilities in Europe, the sector provides 20,000 direct employments. Its members process approximately 55 million tonnes of raw materials a year, both of EU origin and imported from third country markets. The sector crushes oilseeds, notably rapeseed, sunflower seed, soybeans and linseed into oils and meals and refines those crude oils from crushing and crude tropical oils, notably palm oil, palm kernel oil and coconut oil. The meals and the crude and refined oils are sold for food, feed, technical and energy uses essentially on the European market.
