Brussels, 10 December 2018 - For FEDIOL, the endorsement by Member States on 7 November 2018 of the Commission’s proposal to set a maximum limit on the use of trans fatty acids (TFA) in food products is a welcome step towards a harmonized regulatory approach in the EU.
Once approved, after controls by the Parliament and the Council, the EU legislation will further support the efforts undertaken by industry to reduce the presence of trans fats in foods and will consolidate the national TFA laws that have emerged in recent years.
The proposal is meant to tackle remaining hotspots in some products and in few EU countries with a view to enhance consumer protection and to ensure a level playing field for all operators across the EU.
