solidarity on the two shores of the Mediterranean must be the priority for the European Union and for all countries on the Southern Mediterranean bank. Hence, the S&D Group in the European Parliament has organised the conference titled “Addressing the main challenges of the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation: A progressive agenda”.
The organisation of the two days of meetings and discussions, that will take place today and tomorrow in the European Parliament in Brussels, have also contributed the Global Progressive Forum, with the support of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Solidar and Solidar Tunisie.
As progressives, the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament intends to invest in a mutual cooperation to foster concrete and deep dialogue in order to reinforce democracy, the rule of law, the respect of the fundamental human rights. We must also aim to create the conditions to boost the economy through fair growth and sustainable development.
Together with the progressive parties, MPs, trade-unions and civil society organisations from the EU and from Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia, we must work to build a progressive roadmap, based on sharing, cooperation and dialogue, in order to make the Mediterranean a fair, prosperous and sustainable space for peace and solidarity.
