Today, the European Parliament gave a positive signal to businesses and citizens by supporting energy efficiency, the decarbonization of heating and cooling and a more effective governance structure for the EU's Energy Union. Industry frontrunners are ready to deliver even higher ambition levels.

Parliamentarians adopted their position on three files of the Clean Energy for All package: The Renewable Energy Directive (RED), the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and the Regulation for the governance of the Energy Union.

Danfoss welcomes the outcome of the vote and believes that the Parliament is now in a good starting position for the upcoming negotiations with EU Member States on each of the three files.

Policy makers must give strong market signals to increase the speed and scale of investment levels."

Danfoss fully supports an ambitious Energy Efficiency Directive, including a binding target of at least 35% by 2030 which is realistically achievable with today's technologies. It is important that energy efficiency solutions are embraced across sectors to tap into energy savings potentials for example in buildings, district energy or water treatment.

There is no energy transition without the transformation of the heating and cooling sector. Heating and cooling accounts for half of the energy we consume and is to 75% relying on fossil fuels. We welcome that the Parliament's report on the Renewable Energy Directive sets an ambitious target to increase the share of renewable in heating and cooling every year. It also underlines the enabling role that district energy can play by integrating waste heat from industry and commercial actors.

The Governance Regulation requires Member States to set milestones on energy and climate actions and to track progress. It will enable transparency on national strategies and their results, and hold Member States accountable for the achievement of climate goals.

Danfoss believes a good deal on the three files will put us overall on the right track to engineer growth in Europe, and towards achieving the Paris agreement.
