The Catalan political leadership urged the EU not to turn a blind eye to those who support it
In a historic event with unprecedented attendance that took place in the European Parliament, the Catalan political leadership sent for yet another time a democracy message to the Spanish state and Europe.
"More than 80% of the Catalans want an independence referendum, regardless of what they would vote. This is not about independence but about democracy. Unfortunately, Spain's only reply so far has been NO so we are moving ahead with or without their consent.", highlighted the Catalan President Carles Puigdemont.
More than 500 people gathered yesterday evening to hear Mr. Puigdemont and the pledge of the Catalan Vice President Oriol Junqueras and Foreign Minister Raul Romeva: "In times when others leave the EU, Europe has to stand close to those willing to be a part of it. Catalans always were, are and will be devoted Europeans."
The Catalan political leadership slammed the judicial process Madrid has started against leading Catalan politicians and pointed out to a Spanish judicial system that serves only Mariano Rajoy's PP and not justice.
EFA will continue to support fully the Catalan independence process and remains confident that the new independent Catalan Republic will be part of #AnotherEurope
