EPP LEADERS BACK BARROSO FOR A SECOND TERM AS PRESIDENT OF EUROPEAN COMMISSION

The Heads of State and Government of the European People’s Party (EPP) today decided to back Jose Manuel Barroso for a second term as President of the European Commission.

The decision was taken unanimously during the EPP Summit held in Brussels prior to the European Council.

European Liberals call for competition ahead of G20

Liberal leaders today gathered together for the ELDR Prime Ministers Lunch Summit to discuss preparations for the G20 talks in London on 2nd April and called for a real free market instead of stifling the economy with protectionism and for better international coordination in order to ensure a faster economic recovery and to prevent further crises.

Copa and Cogeca are calling for the urgent re-introduction of export refunds for pig meat and
hope that this will be done on the occasion tomorrow’s meeting of the Single CMO Management

ManuFuture gears up to launching a Public Private Partnership in the manufacturing technology sector

ManuFuture, the European technology platform on future manufacturing technologies, last week decided to set up a new industry-led R&D association - “European Factories of the Future Research Association” (EFFRA) - that will engage into a public private partnership in the area of R&D with the European Commission. The European Technology Platform involves key stakeholders across Europe, including engineering industry associations and their member companies. At last weeks` meeting, the ManuFuture High Level Group decided to set up the new R&D association.

19 March - EPP LEADERS MEET IN BRUSSELS AHEAD OF THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL

The EPP Heads of State and Government along with the President of the European Commission, José Manuel BARROSO, and the President of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert POETTERING, will meet on 19 March 2009 in Brussels.
