Yesterday 22 CEOs from Member State Biotech companies, together with representatives of 11 National Biotech Associations, converged on Europe’s capital for EuropaBio Brussels Day and a series of meetings with EU decision makers. The aim of Brussels Day is to provide an opportunity to bring these groups and individuals together to meet and network with other stakeholders at EU level.

New CEPI Chairman: Berry Wiersum, Sappi Europe CEO

The Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Berry Wiersum as the next CEPI chairman. Mr Wiersum will start his chairmanship in the beginning of January 2010 and will hold the post until the end of 2012. Mr Magnus Hall, the current CEPI chairman, will take the post of Vice-chairman for the next two years to guarantee a smooth transition.

Copenhagen, 1 December 2009 Annual rate of newly diagnosed HIV infections in Europe more than doubled between 2000 and 2008, according to a report released for World AIDS Day Nearly 51 600 people in the WHO European Region were newly diagnosed as infected with HIV in 2008, more than double the annual rate in 2000. In the 43 countries in the Region that consistently reported HIV surveillance data during this period, the infection rate rose from 44 to 89 cases per million population, according to HIV/AIDS surveillance in Europe 2008, a report released today.

The two companies will cooperate in developing Geronimo’s more than 4,000 megawatt (MW) pipeline of wind projects in the upper Midwest and potentially other regions of the United States.

Copper industry completes Risk Assessment in anticipation of REACH regulation

The tool kit, for use by the industry with its customers, employees, local regulators and communities, as well as by other stakeholders, positions the industry well to meet its obligations under the EU’s REACH regulation.
