Belarus: Statement on court case of Anatoly Lebedko by EPP President W. Martens and EPP Vice President J. Saryusz-Wolski

Wilfried Martens, President of the European People’s Party (EPP) and Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, EPP Vice-President, expressed today their support to Anatoly Lebedko, Chairman of the United Civil Party Belarus, an EPP member-party. In February this year, Mr. Lebedko was arrested for standing-up publicly for minority rights, against the repression of the Union of Poles in Belarus, and in favour of fundamental rights such as freedom of assembly, thought, and expression:

EGNOS Portal launched for Europe’s satellite navigation application developers

The official EGNOS Portal (www.egnos-portal.eu) is the one-stop point of access, information resource and forum for all those developing and using satellite navigation equipment and applications and aiming to benefit from the enhanced precision and other features of the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS), Europe’s satellite-based augmentation system.

CEEP at the Tripartite Social Summit:Public services employers employ more than 30% of the European workforce: why are we not in the EU 2020?

This was the first question that Carl Cederschiöld, President of CEEP, asked President
Barroso during the Tripartite Social Summit today in Brussels. The Summit was mainly
devoted to the orientations of the EU 2020 strategy. He then turned to Presidents Zapatero
and van Rompuy requesting them to ensure that the key role that public services have in
reality is clearly emphasised in the EU 2020. “This is a prerequisite to achieve the targets of
EU2020”, Cederschiöld continued.

Public Services in Focus: Crucial role demonstrated by experts

In a presentation to Members of the European Parliament and stakeholders, Ralf Resch,
General Secretary of CEEP, presented the main outcomes of the research managed under
the project “Mapping of the Public Services”.

Key findings were that providers of public services employ 64 million people, directly
contributing over 26% to the GDP in the EU.
