Commitment of ETNO Sustainability Charter signatories is not diminishing despite crisis, reveals latest ETNO Sustainability Report

BRUSSELS – CO2 emissions of signatories to the ETNO Sustainability Charter have decreased by 20% between 2006 and 2008 despite a significant increase in overall energy demand due to growing mobile and data traffic, according to the 2009 Sustainability Report presented today to key stakeholders from EU institutions and industry. 

The ETNO bi-annual report monitors progress made by the 22 signatories of the ETNO Sustainability and Environmental Charter created in 1996 and open to all players on the market.

Mobility 2.0 live at Cooperative Mobility Showcase 2010

The Cooperative Mobility Showcase 2010 features the world’s largest most varied and extensive demonstrations of vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication technologies and applications, held in and around Amsterdam 23-26 March 2010. The Cooperative Vehicle-Infrastructure Systems (CVIS) Project is one of Europe’s flagship projects for cooperative mobility, providing a universal platform for vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication and services.

Misshapen fruit saved, but produce logo a waste of money- Lyon

George Lyon (Liberal Democrat, UK), ALDE Spokesman on Agriculture, has welcomed today's European Parliament vote to keep misshapen fruit on Europe's supermarket shelves - but he also warned that other proposals in the Scotta' report might break international law if brought into force.

Mr Lyon co-authored the amendment striking down a provision in support of reintroducing marketing rules in the fruit and vegetables sector (the so-called "wonky fruit" rules). He said:

European social partners commitment on inclusive labour markets

On 25 March 2010, ETUC, BUSINESSEUROPE, UEAPME and CEEP presented their European agreement on inclusive labour markets at the Tripartite Social Summit in Brussels.

With the EU unemployment rate currently at 9.5%, urgent and determined action is needed. Europe cannot afford such a waste of talent. Europe must make full use of its labour force potential, improve job quality and increase employment rates in the face of demographic ageing.

EuropaBio Appoints Carel du Marchie Sarvaas as Director for Agricultural Biotechnology

Brussels, 25 March, 2010 

On 1 April Carel du Marchie Sarvaas will begin work with EuropaBio as Director for Agricultural Biotechnology.  Du Marchie Sarvaas, a Dutch national, brings with him many years of experience as a senior public affairs and communications advisor in Brussels, The Hague, and Washington DC. 

He takes over from Morten Nielsen, who has successfully led the Agricultural Biotech team since September last year.
