More evidence and better early stakeholders' engagement for eHealth

The use of ICT in healthcare - or eHealth - has clear benefits, but there needs to be bigger campaigns to engage more clearly all stakeholders from the start, especially doctors and patients. These were the conclusions of a breakfast meeting hosted by Bulgarian MEP Antonyia Parvanova (ALDE) and organised recently by ACCA ( the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), where it was also agreed that politicians need to give more support for improvements to happen.

National Renewable Energy Action Plans: Delivery starts!

Today- the 30th of June 2010- is the deadline for each of the 27 EU Member States to hand in their National Renewable Energy Action Plans (NREAPs) to the European Commission under the Renewable Energy Directive. The NREAPs will give an overview of the development of the renewable energy sector until 2020 as well as detailed information on measures to reach the targets.

French Government should rally behind EAS deal instead of pulling it apart

Guy VERHOFSTADT, leader of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in the European Parliament and one of Parliament's chief negotiators, reacting today to remarks made by Pierre Lellouche, the French Secretary of State, on the European External Action Service warned:

"The agreement reached last week in Madrid by all parties involved in the establishment of the framework for Europe's new diplomatic service was arrived at after much effort and hard negotiation."

NGO anti-biofuels paper is biased and self-serving

Brussels, Today - At an event titled “Bio-energy and Bio-fuels: a carbon accounting time bomb” organized at the European Parliament, three environmental NGOs presented their own studies one on bioenergy and one on biofuels. The one on biofuels from CE Delft suggests that the EU Biofuels policies could be increasing GHG emissions compared to fossil fuels. “This study does not go beyond unproven theories and its conclusions are totally unfounded”, says Rob Vierhout, Secretary-General, eBIO.

Charging of electric vehicles Mandate officially handed over to the European Standards Organisations

This afternoon Mr Antonio Tajani, European Commission Vice-President responsible for Industry and Entrepreneurship, officially handed over to the three European Standards Organisations, CEN (the European Committee for Standardization), CENELEC (the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization) and ETSI (the European Telecommunications Standards Institute),  the European Commission mandate (M/468) regarding the charging of electric cars, scooters and bicycles.
