JENBACH, AUSTRIA—July 14, 2010—Cow manure is being converted to energy at the first biogas cogeneration plant in the Ukraine. The facility, which is powered by 4,000 cows and a GE (NYSE: GE) Jenbacher gas engine, has recently completed nine months of successful operation at the Ukrainian Milk Company Ltd., located near Kiev.

This afternoon EuropaBio provided industry’s initial reactions to Commissioner Dalli’s announcement of the Commission’s proposal to nationalise the authorisation of cultivation of GM crops. 

GMOs: Commission abdicates responsibility to Member States

"Today's decision by the European Commission to give Member States the final word over the planting of genetically modified crops is an abdication of responsibility, undermines the integrity of the Internal Market and sets a dangerous precedent for finding common solutions to other cross border issues," said Guy Verhofstadt, Liberal and Democrat group leader today.
