Brussels, 8 September 2010. Yvo de Boer, former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, will give the opening keynote address at a seminar on the Water Footprint and Water Stewardship, co-organized by the European Water Partnership (EWP) on 9 September in Brussels. The seminar, which is intended for journalists only, will outline the effects of growing water shortages and water consumption and will present a number of innovative solutions:

In a hard-hitting resolution adopted today by virtual unanimity (one vote against) the European Parliament sent a strong message to the Iranian authorities that the state of human rights in Iran is deplorable. The text specifically appeals for clemency for the Iranian women (Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani and Zahra Bahrami) facing the death penalty.
