Agency work industry gives picture of where vacancies are and what skills are needed most

Brussels, 23 November 2010; Eurociett, which represents the agency work industry in Europe, has provided data on the number of temporary vacancies in Europe for the Commission’s first European Vacancy Monitor (EVM), launched today.  The EVM will inform policy makers at European, national, regional and sectoral level as to where vacancies lie and what occupations and skill sets are most needed.

2011 budget a symptom of rather than a solution to the crisis

"Co-decision on budget issues is the minimum required under democracy and Member States must not be allowed to redefine solidarity as 'helping when it suits your interests'" GUE/NGL President Lothar Bisky said in today's EU budget 2011 debate in the European Parliament.

"People who argued for the Lisbon Treaty stressed that the democratic deficit would be plugged. Trichet's capitulation to speculators at the root of brutal austerity and crisis

In tonight's European Parliament debate with Jean-Claude Trichet, GUE/NGL MEPs laid blame for attacks on people's standard of living firmly at the door of the ECB President and the Commission.

"The ECB is responsible for the tragedy that has hit Greece and Ireland. We must avoid suicidal austerity packages that put countries at the mercy of the speculative markets" said German MEP Jürgen Klute, calling on the ECB to support sovereign bonds and introduce Euro bonds.
