Heading to Dubai for the 59th UITP World Congress & Exhibition!

In less than three months, the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) will hold its 59th World Congress and Exhibition in Dubai, hosted by Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). With its integrated multimodal public transport system, Dubai is the ideal host city for the UITP Congress: the Emirate is in pole position to achieve UITP’s PTx2 ambition, with its public transport market share expected to increase from 11% today to 34% in 2020.

Eavesdropping scandal in Bulgaria: Commission must investigate

The ALDE group has tabled today a parliamentary question to the Commission asking clarifications over the recent scandal associated to the escalating application of the Bulgarian law on the use of special intelligence that is not in line with the Bulgarian Constitution, the provisions of the Lisbon Treaty, the ECHR and the European Charter of Fundamental Rights.

"In times of crisis, solutions are not national, but European", emphasised the Chairman of the EPP Group who is in Bucharest for meetings with Romanian President Basescu and Prime Minister Boc.

"But we can only convince our people to play the European game if the rules are clear, solid and identical for everyone. This is also the case for accession to the Schengen zone", said Joseph Daul.

Asylum: Commission to ensure EU asylum standards in Belgium and Greece finally implemented. Manfred Weber MEP

Following today's decision by the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg on the case "M.S.S. vs. Belgium and Greece" (EU asylum policy and Dublin II), the Vice-Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber MEP (DE) said:

"The Commission must no longer close its eyes to the deficiencies in the implementation of EU asylum standards. For too long Commissioner Malmström has refused to act. The EU's common asylum standards have to be implemented in Greece and Belgium, too.

Foundations in Accountancy was created after detailed consultation with employers, learning providers, members, students and other professional accountancy bodies and regulators.

EU Black Sea Strategy approved by Parliament and supported by the European Commission. Traian Ungureanu MEP

Traian Ungureanu's Report 'An EU Strategy for the Black Sea' was approved yesterday with an overwhelming majority in the European Parliament's plenary. In the debate that preceded the vote, the Report was carried by a large majority of all political groups. The European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy expressed his commitment to follow Traian Ungureanu's recommendations and to develop an EU Strategy for the Black Sea Region.

Online gaming and betting: Double blow against French legislation

Both the French Competition Authority and the European Commission flag distortions with regards to the opening of the French market

The French Competition Authority, in an opinion published today (see link) echoes the numerous concerns raised by the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) related to the controversial modalities of the opening of the online gaming and betting market in France.

EGBA takes note in particular of the following severe conclusions:

Europe can be a leading force in the global economy", said Gunnar Hökmark MEP, Vice-Chairman of the EPP Group, as Parliament debated the EU's competition policy this morning.
