EU should appoint a mediator for Albania

The violent clashes in Tirana, Albania, last Friday are unacceptable for a European country and for a State that aspires to become a member of the European Union. Three died and over 60 others are reported injured.

H1N1 Influenza: more cooperation needed by health authorities. Anne Delvaux MEP

The European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee (ENVI) adopted a Report today on the management of the outbreak of H1N1 infuenza in 2009-2010.

According to Anne Delvaux MEP, Shadow Rapporteur for the EPP Group, the Report, adopted with a large majority (58 in favour, 2 abstentions) highlights important concerns in terms of cooperation by the Member States, independence of the health authorities and transparancy.

Moscow terrorist attack condemned. Joseph Daul MEP, EPP Group Chairman

"I strongly condemn the terrorist attack in Moscow's airport which took place yesterday and has killed 37 people and injured many more. On behalf of The EPP Group in the European Parliament, I extend our sincerest sympathies to the families of those killed and injured in this savage attack on innocent people.

"There can be no justification for such an atrocity committed against civilians in a public place. I call on the Russian authorities to do everything possible to bring those responsible for this murderous act to justice."

Portugal: Re-election of President Cavaco Silva welcomed. Joseph Daul MEP, Chairman of the EPP Group

"I warmly congratulate Professor Aníbal Cavaco Silva on his clear victory in the Presidential elections of yesterday in Portugal", said Joseph Daul.

 

With this very welcome outcome for Mr. Cavaco Silva, obtaining 52,94% of the votes, the Portuguese people have shown that they want continuity with Professor Cavaco Silva's priorities, in tackling unemployment, containing external debt and reinforcing competitiveness of the Portuguese economy. 

 

The decisive factors for designing end-to-end resilient networks identified

The resilience of data networks is vital for the economy and society. Yet, abnormal but legitimate traffic, malicious attacks, accidents or human mistakes, and technical failures at lower levels can still hamper network access. This has major consequences for the information society, as networks is found everwhere, behind energy, water, e-commerce; i.e. the entire critical information infrastructure.
