Future European Funding for Wales

With no help from Westminster, Wales must look for support elsewhere

Plaid Cymru President, Jill Evans MEP, today submitted her party's response to the European Commission's consultation on the future of European funding.

Unfortunately, West Wales and the Valleys are likely to again meet the criteria to receive the highest category of EU funding; meaning Wales is still one of the poorest regions in the EU.

EFET welcomes the temporary suspension of national registries to enhance their security, but urges for more attention to adverse market effects and clarification of the legal situation

The European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET)* welcomes the decision of the European Commission (EC) and EU Member States (MSs) on 19 January, 2011, to suspend national registries in response to recent security breaches. The large number of events involving unlawful access to registry accounts and theft of EU allowances (EUAs) in the week preceding the suspension confirmed the vulnerability of registry systems, first revealed by similar events that occurred in 2010.

Renewable energy - Commission backs-up national support schemes; must do more to put renewables at heart of EU energy strategy

The European Commission today adopted a communication on the progress in EU member states towards their renewable energy targets. The Greens welcomed that the Commission acknowledged national support schemes as the way forward for promoting renewables, but called for more to be done to support putting renewables at the heart of the EU's energy strategy.
