ALDE insists that EU-India FTA insures continued availability of generic medicines

During the final stages of negotiations, between the EU and India for a free trade agreement (FTA) which began in 2007 and will probably conclude this Spring, the ALDE Group in the European Parliament organised a seminar today to reiterate their concern over the Commission's alleged intention to include a "data exclusivity" provision within the agreement, that will delay and limit market entry of generic medicines, as well as increase prices.

"I welcome today's decision of the European Parliament's executive body to give a green light to the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly. We can now progress within the Eastern Partnership by launching its parliamentary assembly. The agreement was founded on the suspension of Belarus from the Assembly until the undemocratic development in the country has been reversed", commented Gunnar Hökmark MEP, EPP Group spokesperson on the Eastern Partnership, during today's decision by the Conference of Presidents to proceed towards a constituent Assembly this spring.

Turkey should intensify it reforms. This is Parliament's key message in its Resolution on Turkey's 2010 Progress Report which was adopted today in the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee with a vast majority (51 votes in favour and 5 against).

 

ALDE calls for further progress on reforms in Turkey

The European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee today approved Turkey's 2010 progress report sending a strong message of support for further reforms ahead of Turkey's general elections this June.
