Graham Watson, Leader of the ALDE group in the European Parliament yesterday announced his candidature for the presidency of the European Parliament.

In front of liberal colleagues from all around Europe, gathering for ALDE’s annual New Years reception in Brussels, Watson declared that he has written to all MEPs to inform them of his candidacy for the Parliament’s top job when the new legislative term starts in June, following the European elections.

The ELDR Party welcomes this news and believes that Watson is the ideal candidate to lead the parliament in working to revive the reform of Europe's institutions, provide a much needed economic stimulus to the economy and ensure Europe plays a leading role in addressing climate change and the EU’s energy needs.

Mr Watson, keep up the good work!
