New Hire to Help Clients Navigate Changing U.S. and EU Laws and Policies

Des Moines, April 24, 2023 – Renewable energy and carbon consulting, auditing and advisory firm, EcoEngineers, today announced the appointment of Urszula Szalkowska as senior consultant and managing director, Europe. With more than two decades of experience in renewable energy, fuels, climate change and transportation, she will lead EcoEngineers’ European practice, supporting both European-based clients, as well as international clients doing business in the European Union (EU).

While the EU faces the worst energy crisis in decades, it is undergoing some of the most significant and complex energy sector transformations in history. Szalkowska brings expertise to help companies navigate the EU's heavily regulated renewable energy markets and advise those doing business in member states on how to abide by national rules. Additionally, she will provide global climate policy coordination across United States and EU regulations, which is essential for global businesses today.

“Over the past several years, the EU has accelerated its commitment to climate policies, and many global companies face challenges related to multiple policy regimes spanning the Atlantic,” said EcoEngineers’ CEO Shashi Menon. “There are two main issues: how the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) will it impact green technology investments in the EU, and how the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will impact global exports to the EU. Urszula’s leadership will enhance EcoEngineers global advisory practice, while helping clients optimize their supply chains based on the opportunities within various regulations.”

Prior to joining EcoEngineers, Szalkowska held several global leadership roles at SGS, most recently as global business manager for market intelligence and natural resources. There, she utilized proprietary data combined with policy, regulatory and market intelligence to execute business strategy across all sectors of transportation, including fuels, biofuels and other low-carbon solutions. Prior to that, she held high-profile global and legal positions at Client Earth overseeing Poland and the EU; Stratas Advisors (formerly Hart Energy) overseeing Europe, Africa, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS); and the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection in Poland.

Szalkowska holds a Master of Arts in law and administration from The University of Warsaw in Warsaw, Poland, as well as professional certificates in German and European law, Latin American law, and European Union structural funds. She speaks fluent English and Polish and conversational German, French, and Spanish. She is based in Gdansk, Poland.
