The International Trade Centre (ITC) in collaboration with the Directorate for Trade of the European Commission (DG Trade) launched a survey assessing women's participation in extra-EU trade and identifying obstacles faced by women engaging in extra-EU trade.
The survey will provide solid evidence on the engagement of women-led businesses in extra-EU trade in terms of products, markets, and modalities. In addition, the survey will delve deeper into the trade and trade-related challenges and barriers faced by women, mapping potential gender-specific issues.
The survey report will be presented at the Women and Trade Conference hosted in Brussels by the European Commission on 30 September.

The survey is being implemented in 12 Member States of the European Union (EU): Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, The Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden. 1135 women-led and men-led firms are being interviewed, covering the agricultural and manufacturing sectors.
Please get in touch with us at gendersurveys@intracen.org. The deadline for participating in the survey is 9 August.
Background
The survey is a component of the project “Women in Trade: Collecting Data on Women’s Involvement in Extra-EU Trade”. The two components of this project are:
- A review of existing gender chapters or provisions relevant for gender equality or women's economic empowerment in trade agreements.
- A report based on the company survey assessing women’s participation in extra-EU trade and identifying obstacles faced by women engaging in extra-EU trade.
The first component is managed by ITC's SheTrades Initiative while the second component by ITC’s Non-Tariff Measures (NTM) Programme.
