Statement on the war in Ukraine from the European Society of Endocrinology

Global Europe

It is with great sadness that we at the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE) are watching the development of the war in Ukraine. We stand in solidarity with those members of our communities, healthcare professionals, researchers, and patients as well as all people from Ukraine impacted by the invasion of the Russian army. ESE promotes endocrine health, research, science, and education among professionals and patients across Europe and beyond. Our strategy is based on the fundamental values of democracy, civil rights, national self-determination and peaceful co-existence: War is the natural enemy to our mission.

The ESE Executive Committee strongly condemns the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, carried out under the orders of President Vladimir Putin. We wish to express our deepest sympathy to those affected, to Ukraine and its citizens, especially our Ukrainian members and colleagues. We feel it is important to express on behalf of ESE the horror at the devastation that is being inflicted on innocent citizens.

We hope that there will be a rapid resolution of this conflict, which is already destroying so many lives. We send our thoughts to our friends and members within Ukraine and Russia, and our partner organisations in these regions. Let science and friendship prevail.
