Press release

In the wake of recurrent tax evasion and tax avoidance scandals, and a year before the European elections, the S&D Group holds, with its partners, a TOGETHER conference in The Hague today on the topic of ‘Fair Tax - Stop the corporate tax race to the bottom’.

The event is hosted by S&D Group president Udo Bullmann, the head of the Dutch S&D delegation, Paul Tang MEP, and several S&D MEPs.

Special guests include Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the UK Labour Party, and Lodewijk Asscher, leader of the Dutch Labour Party – PvdA. John Crombez, leader of Belgian Socialist Party sp.a will join as well.

The debates of this #EuropeTogether event will focus on our proposed solutions to tackle tax avoidance in Europe. Several S&D MEPs will engage in discussions with stakeholders and participants.

The ‘Fair Tax Event - Stop the corporate tax race to the bottom’ is open to journalists and the public. The event takes place at Het Paard, Prinsegracht 12, The Hague. Doors open at 18.00h.

The event will also be live streamed in English and Dutch on the S&D Group’s website, the Together Initiative website and in English on our S&D Group Facebook page.

The #EuropeTogether initiative aims to bring European politics closer to citizens. The campaign brings together politicians, academics, civil society and citizens to debate and come up with new proposals for the future of Europe. It runs alongside a series of Go Local events that bring together MEPs and citizens in a more informal setting. The next Go Local event will be held next week in Rota in Spain, followed by one in September in Carcassonne. More information can be found on the Europe Together website.
