September 2018 will see the first sitting for two new exams from ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) - Strategic Business Leader and Strategic Business Reporting.

From today, ACCA students can register to take the new exams as part of the Strategic Professional level of the ACCA Qualification, which was re-launched in October 2016. The qualification is benchmarked at Master’s level on a number of education frameworks. ACCA introduced these new exams to continue to ensure students have the skills required for the modern working world, following extensive consultation with employers.

As part of the qualification re-design, ACCA recently introduced its new Ethics and Professional Skills Module. Students are advised to complete this module before they sit the Strategic Professional exams, as it introduces the range of specialist competences tested at Strategic Professional.

ACCA’s director of professional qualification, Judith Bennett says: ‘Strategic Professional integrates deep, broad and relevant technical expertise with ethics and professional skills, giving students the forward-thinking strategic abilities and advanced skill-set modern professional accountants need to shape the future of global business.

‘Since consulting with over 2000 C-Suite executives and accountants worldwide, we’ve been on a journey to ensure students become the strategic, forward-thinking professionals equipped with the skills needed by employers.

‘Ethics and professionalism are at the heart of our qualification, so we advise our students that before taking these two new exams, they complete our Ethics and Professional Skills Module as it will prepare them well.’

  • Strategic Business Leader is an innovative case study, with a strong focus on leadership, integrating technical, ethical and professional skills. The case study is based on a realistic business scenario that uniquely draws across ACCA’s syllabus and which mirrors the workplace. It replaces Governance, Risk and Ethics (paper P1) and Business Analysis (paper P3) exams. Students who have completed both the P1 and P3 exams (with valid expiry dates) will receive a converted pass Strategic Business Leader.
  • Strategic Business Reporting is an enhanced corporate reporting exam that provides ACCA students with a holistic view of reporting, through applying knowledge, skills, and exercising professional judgement in the application and evaluation of financial reporting principles and practices. It replaces Corporate Reporting (P2 exam). Students who have completed the P2 exam (with valid expiry date) will receive a converted pass for Strategic Business Reporting.

Judith Bennett adds: ‘We’ve been working with our approved content partners to ensure all the study materials are available.  We are also working with tutors so that they are trained to support students towards success. We recommend that all students preparing for Strategic Business Leader study with an approved learning provider (ALP) as we believe the learning of professional skills can be greatly enhanced by the broad and discursive nature of group learning.’
