CLEPA, the European Association of Automotive Suppliers, welcomes the decision by the European Parliament to adopt the RDE package approved by the Technical Committee of Motor Vehicles (TCMV) on 28 October 2015.

Any delay of the entering into force of the RDE provisions would have been detrimental for the environment. Emissions reductions under real-world conditions are of upmost importance for air quality improvements, particularly in cities, and this is a significant step in the right direction. Moreover, today’s vote contribute to give certainty to the industry”, said Mr Schockmel, CLEPA CEO.

The two-step conformity factor approach allows for a RDE introduction scenario combining environmental benefits from 1 September 2017 onwards with the minimum lead-time for the automotive industry.

European automotive suppliers have consistently stated their support for the development of the RDE test and we reaffirm our commitment today taking into account future development in this area.  CLEPA supports the yearly review process which can be expected to lead to a lowering of the conformity factor as soon as improved measurement equipment becomes available”, concluded Mr Schockmel, CLEPA  CEO.
