Proximus, VUB and ULB signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei during the Royal mission in Beijing, China, today. Huawei and Proximus will jointly provide and implement cutting-edge ICT infrastructure, such as but not limited to 5G technology, for the Learning & Innovation Center which aims to extend the traditional library concept by integrating the newest information and communication technologies. The center is an initiative of VUB and ULB. Proximus is key partner of the Learning & Innovation Center.

The VUB and ULB universities are aiming to create a campus of the future by developing an innovative, visionary concept, benefiting from housing their Science and Engineering faculties on a single campus in Brussels.

As a key private partner of the project, Proximus will provide the “campus of the future” with ICT infrastructure, equipment and connectivity.  In the Learning & Innovation Center the Proximus "Innovation Lounge" will be installed, which will become an inspiring meeting place for students and researchers, where they will be able to adopt and study the latest breakthroughs in cutting-edge technology.

Huawei will work with Proximus to deploy innovative ICT infrastructure. Next generation wireless technology, such as, but not only, 5G connectivity for the Learning & Innovation Center, will be a key part of this collaborative effort. The center will be among the first 5G applications in Belgium. Huawei launched its European Research Centre (ERI) in Belgium, in May, to drive the company’s research efforts towards making 5G technology a reality.
