The S&D Bureau, led by Gianni Pittella, S&D Group president, will go on a political visit to Berlin on Monday and Tuesday next week  (25/26 April 2016).

The S&D Bureau will meet with the Bureau of the SPD Group and visit the SPD parliamentary group in the German Bundestag. Meetings will also be arranged with Sigmar Gabriel, Chair of the SPD and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In the context of the exchange on solutions to the refugee crisis, there will also be a meeting with Franziska Giffey, mayor of Neukölln, and a visit to the refugee camp in Wilmersdorf.

Commenting on the upcoming visit, S&D Group president, Gianni Pittella, said:

"Answers to the various challenges the EU faces today, can only be European; whether it is economic policy, the migration crisis or the fight against terrorism. Only together can we find solutions that solve the huge problems Europe is faced with today.

"To do so, we need close cooperation between the national and European level and the joint work among the national parliamentary groups and the European Parliament. As a founding member of the EU, Germany is of course key for the future shape of Europe and during our visit next week in Berlin we will address the most urgent issues in our meetings with the SPD and others."
 

Fraktionsvorsitzender Gianni Pittella wird Besuch des S&D-Vorstandes in Berlin nächste Woche anführen und aktuelle Herausforderungen der EU thematisieren
 
Der Vorstand der S&D-Fraktion, angeführt von Gianni Pittella, Vorsitzender der S&D-Fraktion im Europäischen Parlament, wird kommenden Montag/Dienstag (26/27 April 2016) für einen politischen Besuch nach Berlin reisen.
 
Grund des Besuchs ist ein Treffen mit dem SPD-Fraktionsvorstand sowie mit der SPD-Fraktion im Deutschen Bundestag. Darüber hinaus werden Gespräche mit Sigmar Gabriel, Vorsitzender der SPD, und Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Bundesminister für auswärtige Angelegenheiten, organisiert. Vor dem Hintergrund eines Meinungsaustausches über Lösungen der Flüchtlingskrise, wird es auch ein Treffen mit Franziska Giffey, Bürgermeisterin von Neukölln, sowie einen Besuch im Flüchtlingslager in Wilmersdorf geben.
 
Den bevorstehenden Besuch kommentierend, sagte S&D-Fraktionsvorsitzender Gianni Pittella:
 
"Die Antworten auf die verschiedenen Herausforderungen, vor denen die EU heute steht, können nur europäische sein. Sei es die Wirtschaftspolitik, die Flüchtlingskrise oder der Kampf gegen den Terrorismus: Nur gemeinsam können wir Lösungen für die gewaltigen Probleme finden, mit denen Europa heute konfrontiert ist. Hierfür benötigen wir eine enge Zusammenarbeit zwischen nationaler und europäischer Ebene sowie die gemeinsame Arbeit nationaler Fraktionen und des Europäischen Parlaments. Als Gründungsmitglied der EU, nimmt Deutschland eine Schlüsselrolle in der Gestaltung des zukünftigen Europas ein. Während unseres Besuchs nächste Woche in Berlin werden wir die dringendsten Probleme in unseren Treffen mit der SPD und anderen thematisieren."
