The Party of European Socialists calls for all progressives and its member parties to support the historic agreement on the decade-long name dispute and for the governments of Athens and Skopje that reached it.
PES president Sergei Stanishev said:
“Alongside with the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, all progressives and member parties in Europe understand and appreciate the tireless efforts and the deep commitment of PMs Alexis Tsipras and Zoran Zaev. They have shown courage and leadership to all of us.
"The PES has played an instrumental role in supporting these negotiations, as was made obvious in our meeting in Sofia three weeks ago.
"We are looking forward to meeting again with both prime ministers at our Pre-Council meeting on June 28 in Brussels."
