Vernunft statt Gewalt!
Der völkerrechtswidrige Angriff, den die USA gemeinsam mit Frankreich und Großbritannien auf einzelne Ziele in Syrien eingeleitet haben muss sofort beendet werden. Das damit verbundene diplomatische Unvermögen führt zu einer Eskalation der Gewalt und nicht zur Lösung des Konflikts. Dieser Angriff ist unter jeder Betrachtung völkerrechtswidrig. Es gibt kein Selbstverteidigungsrecht der USA, es gibt kein Recht auf einen Präventivschlag. Einen Eingriff ohne ein Mandat des UNO-Sicherheitsrates ist eindeutig völkerrechtswidrig. Auch die Rechtfertigung der humanitären Intervention, macht es nicht völkerrechtskonform. Der Einsatz chemischer Waffen ist ebenso völkerrechtswidrig. Zunächst muss allerdings aufgeklärt werden, ob es ihn gab. Davon wird man wohl ausgehen müssen. Dann muss aber noch aufgeklärt werden, von wem er ausging. Ein Interesse von Assad und Russlands ist nicht erkennbar. Schritt für Schritt erreichen sie militärische Erfolge, wie man auch immer zu ihnen steht. Trump wollte mit dem Rückzug seiner Truppen beginnen. Welches Interesse sollten Assad und Putin daran haben, Gegenschläge, die sie aufhalten, zu provozieren. Das Interesse liegt wohl eher bei denen, die sich einen militärische Einschaltung der USA wünschen.
In Gedanken sind wir bei den vielen Zivilisten, Geflohenen deren Angehörigen, Freundinnen und Freunde. Sie leiden unter einem entsetzlichen militärischen Machtkampf.

Reason instead of violence!
Concerning the situation in Syria, the President of the European Left Gregor Gysi declares:
The illegal international attack, which the US has launched together with France and the United Kingdom on individual targets in Syria must be ended immediately. The associated diplomatic inability leads to an escalation of violence and not to the resolution of the conflict. This attack is illegal under any consideration. There is no US right ofself-defense, there is no right to a preemptive strike. An intervention without a mandate from the UN Security Council is clearly contrary to international law. Even the justification of the humanitarian intervention does not make it compatible with international law. The use of chemical weapons is also contrary to international law. First, however, it must be clarified whether it existed. You will probably have to assume that. But then it still has to be clarified, from whom it went out. An interest of Assad and Russia is not apparent. Step by step they achieve military successes, however one stands with them. Trump wanted to start the retreat of his troops. What interest should Assad and Putin have in provoking counter-attacks that stop them? The interest is more likely to those who want a US military intervention.
In our thoughts, we are among the many civilians, the refugees, their relatives and friends. They are suffering under a terrible military power struggle.
