Nicolas Schmit and Pervenche Berès – respectively chair of the PES EPSCO Ministerial Network and chair of the PES Social Europe Network – pleaded for more funding for the European Youth Guarantee in a joint letter to Commissioner Marianne Thyssen and Vice-President Kristalina Georgieva.

They emphasise that the Commission does not propose adequate re-funding for it for the period 2017-2020, despite a very positive assessment of the Youth Guarantee. According to the own words of the European Commission, the Youth Guarantee is a 'powerful policy driver for reform' helping young people find their way to employment. In three years of implementation, it has already provided 9 million young people with an offer of employment, apprenticeship, traineeship, or lifelong learning.

"The Youth Guarantee is a success, but more remains to be done. As youth employment remains particularly high in a certain number of member states, the European youth employment crisis is far from over (...) We call for €20 BN to be made available for the Youth Guarantee until 2020", the letter states.
