Brussels, 26 January 2021 – NGVA Europe’s Board of Directors has appointed Dr Jens Andersen as new Secretary General of the association. He will succeed Andrea Gerini, who has led the association since 2017, as of 1 March 2021.

Jens Andersen is German national and holds a doctorate degree in engineering. Before becoming Secretary General of NGVA Europe, he was working as an independent Senior Executive Consultant and Board Advisor. His experience is rooted on more than 28 years in the automotive industry, allied with more than 23 years of experience in strategic and operational powertrain and vehicle projects, coupled with significant portfolio strategy, process and profit improvements.

“I am very pleased and honoured to serve NGVA Europe as new Secretary General with my vast expertise within the sector and gas in transport in general. We are facing an incredibly important time with legislative calendar where we will have the key opportunity to implement and enable gmobility to play its necessary role in all current and future transport scenarios. I know that biomethane used in gas vehicles brings excellent environmental benefits that can significantly contribute to the decarbonisation of the transport sector and improve air quality. It is mature, affordable, and both vehicles and fuelling infrastructure are broadly available.” Dr Jens Andersen commented.

Andrea Gerini will move back to Italy, joining FPT Industrial within the CNHi group, remaining at the forefront of the development of clean gas powertrain solutions.

Congratulating Jens Andersen, Andrea Gerini stated:

“I am very pleased to hand over to Jens not only because of his great experience and skills, but also and above all; his huge passion. This will ensure continuity and progress, whilst enriching the work of NGVA Europe with new ideas, methods and strategies to continue promoting the use of natural and renewable gas as a transport fuel. At the same time, I am looking back at four exciting years as Secretary General of NGVA Europe; a very important and intense time, surrounding relevant discussions and continuous exchanges, from a personal, professional and also institutional standpoint. It was a pleasure leading NGVA Europe, and I want to thank all members, the Board, the team, and all partners for their continuous support in making NGVA Europe, the leading association for gas in transport in Europe, what it is today.”

NGVA Europe’s President Dr Timm Kehler added:

“Representing and speaking for the association and board members, I am eager to welcome Jens Andersen as new Secretary General. Personally, I am looking forward to working together on the pressing matters of the upcoming reviews of the CO2-regulation and the development of NGVA Europe towards climate-neutral gases. With his profound knowledge and many years of experience in gmobility, related technologies, energy, as well as European affairs, he is the ideal successor to continue the great work of Andrea Gerini.”

NGVA Europe looks forward to continuing paving the road to sustainable mobility by highlighting the important role that the use of gas in transport plays and will keep working closely with EU policy makers, the NGV industry, gas companies and vehicle operators.
