A new European Standard will unify service requirements. The project has been launched in Vienna on 4 November 2008.
 
Brussels  (5  November  2008)  –  Strict  airport  security  checks  are  standard
throughout  the  world.  All  check-ins  include  mandatory  screening  of  hand
luggage, and metal detectors scanning for forbidden objects.  Increasingly  time-
consuming,  these checks - carried out by  the police in the past - are now often
handled by private security companies.
