Brussels/Frankfurt, 26 November 2021 – Commenting on the EU-Commission's new Corona Recommendations to secure freedom of movement in Europe, Thilo Brodtmann, Executive Director at VDMA, says:

"We are very pleased that the EU-Commission has now acted early and has underlined the freedom of movement in Europe with the updated Corona Recommendations. We particularly welcome the fact that the focus is now on the personal vaccination status and no longer on the origin of the traveller from so-called risk regions. This is appropriate and creates further incentives for vaccination.

Consistent European travel recommendations are exactly the right way to combat the Corona pandemic and to ensure a functioning Internal Market. This provides clarity and transparency for citizens and companies within the EU. This is in particular a huge relief for fitters and service workers who have to travel across the EU.

However, the Member States should now urgently follow the Commission's Recommendations and not draw up their own rules. There must definitely not be another chaos with national go-it-alones and border closures, as was the case with past pandemic waves."
