What would we do without a clean and safe drinking water? We too often take for granted that clean water is supplied to our homes. Giving our children a glass of water, boiling vegetables, having a shower in the morning and watering our plants are all possible thanks to the use of standards and regulations which set the requirements for a clean and safe water supply.
The correct use of chemicals for the treatment of our water are especially important as the incorrect use or dosage of any chemical could have negative impact to our health.
To address this issue, CEN/TC 164 – Water Supply developed a European Standard: EN 17034:2018 on chemicals used for treatment of water intended for human consumption. The standard applies to the use of aluminium chlorides in water treatment. It describes the characteristics and specifies the requirements for the safe handling and use of these aluminium salts, and refers to the corresponding analytical methods.
These actions contribute to making Europe’s water safer for everyone to consume.
The technical secretariat for this European Standard is held by AFNOR - Association Française de normalisation
