MEPs vote in favour of better consumer protection
ANEC welcomes today’s votes of the European Parliament’s Committee on Internal Market & Consumer Protection (IMCO) in favour of new legislation on consumer product safety and market surveillance.
Both legislative reports have brought improvements to the Commission proposals.
ANEC Secretary General, Stephen Russell, commented: “We especially welcome the decisions to introduce an EU-wide accident & injury database; to make reference to the precautionary principle explicit; to increase the protection offered to vulnerable consumers and to ensure the safety of child-appealing products”.
“We believe today’s adoptions represent clear steps towards improved consumer protection. Hence, we repeat our call to the European Institutions to work towards the adoption of both Regulations in this legislature”, concluded Mr Russell.
ANEC is the European consumer voice in standardisation, defending consumer interests in the processes of technical standardisation and conformity assessment, as well as related legislation and public policies.
