The Party of European Socialists has promoted a declaration from four major European political parties on condemning the brutal attacks in Brussels. The declaration has been supported by the EPP, the PES, the ALDE and the European Green Party.

PES President Sergei Stanishev presented the draft of the declaration to his counterparts Joseph Daul (EPP), Hans van Baalen (ALDE) and Monica Frassoni and Reinhard Bütikofer (European Green Party) who added their valuable input. The joint document was signed by all four party leaders.

Sergey Stanishev said: “The attacks in Brussels were against our free and open societies and against our peaceful coexistence. That’s why the PES came up with the idea for this declaration, because there should be no differences between different parties when we have to defend the values of human rights and democracy. I am glad that all major European parties signed the document.”
