Kiev tragedy - Ukraine Parliament must take initiative in work for political solution

Urging government and opposition leaders to stop the violence in Ukraine, GUE/NGL President Gabi Zimmer today expressed her shock at the death of 25 people on both sides of the dispute with many more injured.

"I would like to expresses our sincere condolences to the victims and their families" she said, stressing that "a political solution remains the only way out of the crisis and is the only way to halt the slide towards a more widespread and entrenched conflict in the country."

"The GUE/NGL group calls on the Ukrainian Parliament to take its responsibility vis-à-vis the people of Ukraine and to take the initiative in attempts to work towards such a political solution."
