Join ICLEI Europe at the European Sustainable Energy Week from 19 - 22 June to gain exclusive insights from successful local, regional and international projects advancing clean and just energy transitions. Energy experts, policymakers, stakeholders and municipalities are invited to learn about funding, training and replication opportunities through more than 15 innovative energy projects, including Smart Energy Solutions for Africa (SESA), Climate Campaigners, DECIDE and Google EIE. Expertise on sustainable energy communities, energy citizenship, circular renovation, positive energy buildings and more will be available throughout the week.

“To achieve Europe’s renewable energy targets and meet its ambitious climate goals, while lessening the ongoing consequences of the energy crisis on people and businesses, we must breathe new life into our energy systems. This means adopting a holistic approach that will address the multifaceted challenges of creating a sustainable energy transition, including energy governance, ownership, poverty, optimisation and innovation. Our initiatives and projects offer a variety of proven experiences and practical solutions for energy stakeholders to take advantage of,” shares Carsten Rothballer, Coordinator - Sustainable Resources, Climate and Resilience, ICLEI Europe.

The week kicks off with the DECIDE project final event on 19 June, which will spotlight collective energy actions and offer a path forward for an inclusive energy transition. Adela Tesarova, Head of Unit, DG ENER; Miloslav Franěk, Senior Project Manager, City of Prague; Piero de Bonis, Policy Officer, DG RTD; Anastasia Kouskouni, Programme Manager, DG REGIO; Maria Santos, Coordinator of the Community Power Coalition; and Dirk Hendricks, Secretary General, European Renewable Energy Federation, among others, are confirmed as speakers for this Sustainable Energy Week event.

On 20 June, the SESA project will present collaborative efforts between the European Union and nine African countries (Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa and Tanzania) at an interactive stand. The initiative aims to provide easily-replicable energy access technologies and business models, in addition to generating local opportunities for economic development and social cohesion.

On 21 June, the ICLEI Europe stand will be dedicated to “Just transitions & energy communities.” A team of experts participating in Act!onHeatCINTRANClimate CampaignersDECIDEEC2EUCFThe Initiative for Coal Regions in TransitionPOWERPOOR, and Sun4All will welcome energy stakeholders and municipalities to discuss relevant capacity building products, programmes and platforms.

On 22 June, projects representing “Sustainable buildings & intelligent infrastructure” will be featured at the ICLEI Europe stand, including: AEGIRBuiltHubCityLoopsEXCESSFastTrackGoogle EIEMATRYCSMICAT, and Save the Homes. Best practice examples, tools and guidance await the participants. Interested parties can also register for the session “Accelerating just energy transition(s) in coal and carbon-intensive regions,” taking place on 22 June from 14:00 - 15:30 CEST.
