Shenzhen, China, July 23, 2012: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced the completion of a breakthrough multi-mode LTE to GSM Automatic Neighbor Relations (ANR) Interoperability Test (IOT). Based on 3GPP R9 standards, Huawei’s LTE to GSM ANR IOT reduces manual configuration for neighbor relations by ninety percent, improves handover success rates, and decreases network management and optimization costs for operators.

Multi-mode ANR, which supports the automatic management and optimization of neighbor relations for networks featuring multiple modes and layers, is a key feature of Huawei’s SingleSON solution. In 2011, Huawei completed an earlier version of the LTE-to-UMTS multi-mode ANR IOT with Qualcomm. This more recent iteration enables LTE systems to automatically manage neighbor relations for GSM Neighbor Cell Lists (NCLs) and Neighbor Relation Tables (NRTs), enhancing user mobility experience when moving from an LTE to a GSM network.

Mobile broadband networks are being challenged by increasing data traffic. The solution to the problems caused by this typically involves moving from a single- to multi-mode complicated network architecture. To enable operators to do this, Huawei launched the SingleSON solution to help carriers efficiently manage multi-mode and multi-layer networks to realize the self-planning, self-configuration and self-maintenance of the network and reduce the cost of operations and maintenance.

To realize automatic operations and maintenance, an increasing number of operators are deploying the SingleSON solution in their networks. In 2011, Huawei successfully launched the SingleSON ANR feature for commercial use on an LTE network in Cologne, Germany, which also saw the ANR feature’s first successful launch on a commercial network anywhere in the world.
