Fondation EurActiv Politech appoints seasoned professional as Director

Christo Velkov, 48, joins Foundation EurActiv as an experienced director having previously worked with several major European and international Foundations. He has over twenty years of experience with implementing strategies, and partnerships, acting as a trusted advisor and fundraiser.
Christo Velkov will provide executive leadership to Fondation EurActiv PoliTech from early May 2014 and will progressively expand and develop its two main units:
1. Fondation EurActiv Institute supports and promotes:
i. Stakeholder Workshops on topical EU policy issues;
ii. Seminars to improve local media access to the EU institutions and better coverage in local media of EU related initiatives;
iii. Media freedom, editorial independence & EU Journalism Fellowships: Fondation EurActiv promotes and advocates for stronger editorial independence for online media, in particular, and for independent, trusted and quality coverage of European policies, in general. This includes a journalist training programme (from EurActiv Network as well as third-party media).
2. PoliTech, EU Community & Social Media: Management of the European affairs blogging platform BlogActiv.eu, EurActiv Social Media and the regulatory aspects of the public private partnership ‘EU Community’ project.
Christo has previously worked for and advised prestigious and leading organisations such as Special Olympics, European Foundation Centre, King Baudouin Foundation, Bertelsmann Foundation and Robert Bosch Foundation.
Christo Velkov is of Bulgarian origin, residing in Belgium since 1990, where he has spent most of his professional career. He is fluent in Bulgarian, English and French and has a strong command of Russian & Serbo-Croatian as well as a more passive knowledge of Spanish, Italian and basic Dutch. In 2011, Christo was the Winner of the Cor Caroli Cup and Sailor of the Year as a sailboat captain and solo navigator.
