Standards are enablers to bring innovation to the market, and are a crucial tool to help Europe establish its leading place in the global economy. At the European Innovation Summit, the three European Standardization Organizations will demonstrate the involvement of European Standardization in innovation in fields such as ‘Efficient Energy Provision’, ‘Urban and Regional Mobility in the EU’ and ‘Electric Vehicles’.

Brussels, 29 September 2010 – Innovation and standardization are strongly linked, fostering, among other things, European industry‟s competitiveness, bringing new export opportunities and economic growth. For this reason, the European Standardization Organizations (ESOs), CEN (the European Committee for Standardization), CENELEC (the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization), and ETSI (the European Telecommunications Standards Institute) are again participating in the European Innovation Summit (EIS), the second such annual event. This two-day event will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels on 11 and 12 October.

EIS 2010 will address Europe‟s innovation challenge by exploring how Europe‟s goal of becoming a global leader in innovation may be achieved and how innovation partnerships can be made successful. Attending the summit are European Parliament Members, as well as decision and policy makers from the European institutions, Agencies and Member States.

CEN, CENELEC and ETSI are participating in EIS 2010 by sending European Standardization representatives:

Dr Cyriacus Bleijs, chair of the CEN-CENELEC Focus Group on electric vehicles, and Mr Soeren Hess, chair of ETSI TC ITS – Intelligent Transport Systems, will be members of the panel on „urban and regional mobility in the EU‟.

Dr Ralph Sporer, chairman of the ESOs Joint Working Group on Smart Grids, will be participating in the panel „Efficient energy provisions‟.

The ESOs will also share an information stand in the exhibition area of the event from 11 to 14 October 2010.
