EU Urban Mobility Days: Together towards liveable cities

Date

28 Sep 2023

From 4 - 6 October in Seville (Spain), Urban Mobility Days (UMD) will convene hundreds of mobility practitioners, policy makers, researchers, and political and industry representatives to exchange ideas on emerging transport trends, technologies, and developments in sustainable urban mobility planning. The in-person event, which offers possibilities for online attendance, will address a variety of sustainable mobility topics, including the energy requirements of urban mobility, how to create a mass behavioural change to encourage active transport modes, and the urban mobility needs of Ukraine, now and in the future.

With 2023 being the European Year of Skills, the Urban Mobility Days will place a specific focus on the skills, knowledge and tools that mobility practitioners need to transition urban spaces into liveable cities and towns with sustainable transport infrastructure.

The CIVITAS Initiative – a network of cities dedicated to sustainable urban mobility and coordinated by ICLEI Europe – will host key sessions during the UMD, including Meet the CIVITAS Community, the CIVITAS Politicians’ Forum, the CIVITAS Educational Network Meeting and the dynamic CIVITAS Project Pitches - a high-speed presentation round of current CIVITAS projects. Additionally, CIVITAS is hosting ‘AGORA’ sessions at various times during the event, where innovators present their market-ready mobility solutions developed within CIVITAS projects through pitches and exhibitions. Throughout the event representatives from the CIVITAS Community will engage with participants in the exhibition area.

In line with the European Green Deal, the Urban Mobility Days programme demonstrates that the future of urban mobility cannot be separated from issues of climate change adaptation, inclusiveness, participation, and accessibility, and that only together can we progress on our common journey.

About Urban Mobility Days: Urban Mobility Days is the European Commission’s flagship event on urban mobility. This year’s event is jointly organised by the European Commission, Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport, and the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

About the CIVITAS Initiative: CIVITAS is one of the flagship programmes helping the European Commission achieve its ambitious mobility and transport goals, and in turn those in the European Green Deal. It does this by acting as a network of cities, for cities, dedicated to sustainable urban mobility. Through peer exchange, networking and training, CIVITAS fosters political commitment and boosts collective expertise, equipping cities to put mobility at the centre of decarbonisation. The CIVITAS Initiative is currently coordinated by CIVITAS MUSE.

About ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability: ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is a global network of more than 2,500 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development. Active in 125 countries, we influence sustainability policy and drive local action for low emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient and circular development. ICLEI Europe provides Members in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and West Asia with a voice on European and international stages, a platform to connect with peers and tools to drive positive environmental, economic and social change. ICLEI Europe works closely with an extended network of local and regional governments and partners on a broad range of topics.
