The President of the European People’s Party (EPP), Wilfried Martens, has warmly welcomed the appointment of Christine Largarde as Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Christine Lagarde has co-chaired since 2010 the EPP EcoFin Ministerial meeting:

"I warmly congratulate Christine Lagarde for her appointment as IMF head. Needless to say, Lagarde has the right experience and qualities to lead the IMF successfully. She is a very skilled negotiator who, on many occasions during the financial crisis, was able to resolve many difficult and complex issues," President Martens underlined.

"I would also like to thank Christine Lagarde for her excellent work as co-chair of the EPP EcoFin ministerial meetings; her commitment and dedication has made the EcoFin meeting one of the most successful EPP Ministerial gatherings," the EPP President added.
