On January 26, 2019, the former President of the Republic of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, spoke to the Executive Board of the Party of the European Left.
Rafael Correa pointed out that there is currently a conservative shift in Latin America - co-organized and supported by the US. The allegations against the former Brazilian President Lula and him were constructed and wrong. The rule of law and democracy would be seriously injured. The aim is to stop people like Lula and him from being able to run again, because the Conservatives would know that both of them would almost certainly win the elections.
If Lula and he had committed such violations of the rule of law and democracy, there would be serious protests from the EU and other national states. But now they were silent.
In Venezuela, change is now being organized by the US and others. But not against the anti-democratic and self-proclaimed interim presidency, but against the democratically legitimated president the US and main European states take position.
The President of the European Left Gregor Gysi expressed his appal that the conservative violation to the rule of law and also undemocratic turnaround in Venezuela is supported not only by the Union, but also by the Social Democratic Foreign Minister of Germany Heiko Maas at the behest of the Bildzeitung. How far does the SPD want to go with the distortion of its original values? He asked.

Am 26. Januar 2019 sprach vor dem Vorstand der Europäischen Linken der frühere Staatspräsident Ecuadors Rafael Correa.
Er wies darauf hin, dass gegenwärtig in Lateinamerika eine konservative Wende - mitorganisiert und unterstützt von den USA – stattfände. Die Vorwürfe gegen den frühen brasilianischen Präsidenten Lula und ihn seien konstruiert und falsch. Die Rechtsstaatlichkeit und die Demokratie würden schwerwiegend verletzt. Es soll verhindert werden, dass Personen wie Lula und er erneut kandidieren können, weil die Konservativen wüssten, dass beide die Wahlen mit an Sicherheit grenzender Wahrscheinlichkeit gewönnen.
Wenn Lula und er solch Verletzungen von Rechtsstaatlichkeit und Demokratie begangen hätten, gäbe es schwerwiegende Proteste der EU und der Nationalstaaten. Jetzt aber schwiegen sie.
In Venezuela wird auf andere Art und Weise der Wechsel jetzt auch von den USA und anderen organisiert. Aber nicht gegen die demokratiefeindliche Selbsteinsetzung eines Interims-Präsidenten, sondern gegen den demokratisch legitimierten Präsidenten bezögen die USA und die wichtigsten europäischen Staaten Stellung.
Der Präsident der Europäischen Linken Gregor Gysi brachte sein Entsetzen darüber zum Ausdruck, dass die konservative rechtsstaatswidrige und undemokratische Wende in Venezuela nicht nur durch die Union, sondern auf Geheiß der Bildzeitung auch vom sozialdemokratischen Außenminister Maas unterstützt wird. Wie weit will die SPD noch bei der Verdrehung ihrer Ursprungswerte gehen, fragte er.
