Democracy and freedom cannot be convicted

EFA fully supports Artur Mas, Joana Ortega and Irene Rigau

Following today's decision of Barcelona Higher Court that bans former Catalan President Artur Mas for 2 years from public life, EFA President Francois Alfonsi commented:

"I believe the court's decision to ban Artur Mas, Joana Ortega and Irene Rigau from political life is yet another proof of the slippery and undemocratic road Madrid continues to follow, refusing to accept reality. Facilitating people to freely and democratically express their opinion can never be considered a crime. While Scotland goes forward for another independence referendum, Catalan politicians are being convicted for holding a symbolic consulation.I therefore call upon Mariano Rajoy to finally rise to the occasion and choose another path, allowing the Catalans to freely express their will in the upcoming binding referebdum. If he fails to do so, the only loser will be the Spanish state."
