The EU agricultural organizations Copa and Cogeca slammed the outcome of EU Farm Ministers in Brussels on Monday night, warning that the EU dairy market will deteriorate even further in the absence of strong market measures.

Copa and Cogeca have continually repeated their demands for EU wide action to help improve the market situation. Public intervention and export refunds on dairy produce need to be activated more and promotional measures must be encouraged in order to stimulate demand. Dairy producers share in the food chain is meanwhile continuing to be eroded to the benefit of retailers.

Commenting on the outcome of the meeting, Padraig Walshe, Copa President warned “EU Farm Ministers failure to make a decision today meant that the disastrous situation facing EU dairy farmers will continue. Many farmers will go out of business whilst waiting for EU politicians to take action”.
