Cable Congress 3-5 March 2010- Beyond Speed
For the past few years, the luminaries and leaders of the European and international cable industry have gathered in rotating European capitals for the sort of conferencing that encapsulates what makes the industry special and gives a sneak preview of cable’s forward direction. Our flagship annual conference last took place in Berlin, one of Europe’s creative capitals, and already back in March of 2009 featured a massive SAVE THE DATE marquis for next year’s 2010 congress.
Cable Congress 2010 will be a special event (and we’re sure you have never heard that before) given that it will be taking place in the capital of Europe during a time of great political intrigue. With the political shifts caused by the incoming 7th Legislature of the European Parliament and the Barroso II Commission set for confirmation in January 2010, coming to Brussels will be a unique insight for the industry faithful not as familiar with the political workings ‘inside the EU bubble.’ Add to the scenario a new EU/US relationship emerging as a backdrop for the current EU political change, and it will be a Cable Congress all about change – in both the cable industry and among the decision makers that make the rules for it. Be sure to check out Cable Congress 2010’s policy sessions on the latest programme for the latest EU policy insights.
Anyone you meet at Cable Congress will happily tell you that the cable industry plays a vital role in the ICT industry by not only providing and continually investing in next generation network infrastructure, but also by providing a future facing means of dissemination of European content. Between modern infrastructure and modern content to put across it, the cable industry has a hands-on role in contributing to the European competitiveness as well as the growth and re-generation that we know the next college is committed to working upon. You will be certain to hear this well after the Cable Congress changes location for the following year in another European capital. It is also likely that many voices will be speculating on changes in the major policy areas that affect the cable business. Discussions on the likelihood of President Barroso’s push for a digital single market will no doubt lead to speculation about improvements needed for clearance mechanisms in copyright, as touched upon by cable at the Visby conference organized this year under the auspices of the Swedish Presidency.
It will be an interesting collision of worlds as the Who’s-Who of the world of connectivity meets the constellation of EU decision makers to discuss what will no doubt be an interesting future. We look forward to having you all with us, Beyond Speed.
