Berlin, 14 November 2019: Cable Europe Fellow Award 2019 winner is Hans Ooms, Director Build, Delivery Network Capacity & Upgrades at Telenet.
Each year at Cable Congress, the Cable Europe Fellow Award is presented to an employee within the industry who has made a positive contribution deserving of recognition. It celebrates operational achievements outside of the boardroom, achievements that make the business a reality.
Ooms was chosen by Cable Congress’ Programming Committee, for his work on the ‘de grote netwerf’ (The Large Foundation), which was launched five years ago by Telenet to prepare the network for the future. Telenet launched the programme in an effort to upgrade their fixed footprint, enabling the company to offer speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps) to more than three million connected houses in Flanders and Brussels.
“A few years back at Telenet we were looking for a smart solution to anticipate the continuous data traffic growth for our fixed network. After carefully looking at all short-term solutions, we decided to go for a massive upgrade of the entire fixed footprint to secure our long-term capacity plans, a project we called ‘de grote netwerf’ (The Large Foundation). Hans and his team brought this complex programme home – overcoming all the practicalities and obstacles on the way, resulting in a full Giga Hertz capable network serving gigabit products for all our customers,” said Micha Berger, CTO of Telenet.
